The Concept Explained

Text
I have been struggling with long form writing for some time, because of a variety of issues that are not really worth enumerating. And yet, I constantly have ideas and I thought perhaps I can gather those through the week and post them on a Sunday night or Monday morning. Let’s see how this goes.
General
The Conformity Issue:
Now that we’ve attended two destination weddings over 3 weekends, I’ve realized that the GenZs and early millennials just do the same thing. Perhaps it is the wedding planners, or social media and peer pressure, but everyone is now a conformist. Everything is choreographed to the “T” and the only differences are the choice of songs played and the pattern of dances during the sangeet.

Quotable Incident
We were at German Bakery in Lonavala for an early morning coffee - it is a biker’s hangout place serving coffee, breakfast, eggs and other meat dishes. Shyam, one of the waiters from West Bengal asked us whether we would like to eat anything and when we said no, he looked at me and said, “yeh umar mein vaise bhi jyada khana nahin chahiye” (At this age, anyway, you shouldn’t eat more). I was nonplussed and asked him what he meant, but he didn’t really have an explanation. Interesting...people over 60 should just eat less. Kind of like point 2 of my atmasvasth 15-point guide to live long, healthy.
Eat less, eat smart - eat sensibly.

Reading
This short story in the New Yorker is worth a read for the use of language and the interweaving of the past and present.

Entertainment
I watched two episodes of Young Sherlock on Amazon Prime over the weekend. Over the years, I have devoured pretty much every show or movie about Sherlock Holmes. This has a different spin with Sherlock and Moriarty becoming friends in Oxford and Lestrade a constable pursuing them during a case. Let’s see how it all pans out.
The Pitt - a medical show - I missed its first season and so I am catching up. The 4th episode was very interesting. When an elder is about to die, Robby (the lead doctor) tells the family that four things help a lot. Saying “thank you”, “I am sorry”, “I forgive you”, “Please forgive me”. The scenes are cathartic and moving. But more about the Pitt in the weeks to come.
